What got you interested in working as an occupational therapist?
I became interested in OT while I was working as a Restorative CNA at a long-term care facility. I was basically in charge of implementing home exercise programs for residents who no longer qualified for therapy services, but still needed support to maintain their independence. I got to work closely with the OTs at the facility and observed how empowering it was to help someone maintain their independence and quality of life! That’s when I knew that OT was the career for me!
What do you love most about working as an occupational therapist?
My favorite thing about being an OT is getting to partner alongside children and their families to empower them to become more independent and engage in the activities that are most important to them! It’s the best when a child accomplishes a task and becomes more confident in themselves!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I’m not working, I enjoy gardening, cooking, exploring new local businesses and breweries and spending time with my husband, family and my dog, Phoebe.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I am a Colorado native! 🙂
What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?
My favorite suggestion for families is to incorporate sensory activities and breaks into their daily routines at home. Whether it is a quiet corner of the house equipped with bean bags, books and lamps, making puffy paint or building an obstacle course in the living room, I think that sensory activities are so important to build into routines and are FUN for the whole family!!
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I’m excited to be a part of FRPT!
