What got you interested in working as an occupational therapist?
In college, I had a summer internship at a pediatric outpatient therapy clinic. I remember being absolutely amazed by how these therapists were able to use play so purposefully to build meaningful therapeutic relationships, foster growth and development, and enhance a child’s skill and engagement. It was like magic to me!
What do you love most about working as an occupational therapist?
For me, nothing is more rewarding than helping a child meet their goals or to see tasks/ activities that used to be hard for them become easier.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
You will probably find me doing something in the outdoors all year long- hiking, skiing, rock climbing, trail running, and camping with my fiancé and our dogs Moose and Ranger.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I was a traveling OT for the past 5 years of my career. And I love visiting National Parks- so far I’ve been to 39/ 63 parks.
What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?
Play! Play is such a critical part of a child’s development. Through play, a child is able to discover new environments, learn social skills, navigate interpersonal relationships, and develop motor skills. I encourage families to follow your child’s lead, and support their participation with sensory rich play, manipulative play, or pretend play.
