What got you interested in working as a speech therapist?

At first, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew I was passionate about science, working with people face-to-face, and making a meaningful impact on others’ lives. When my advisor suggested I look into speech-language pathology, it seemed like a great fit that fit my bigger passions in life. I love that I have the opportunity to build relationships with diverse populations, empower individuals to meet their goals, and continue learning everyday.

What do you love most about being a speech language pathologist?

I love that we are able to work with diverse populations from a wide range of backgrounds, characteristics, and experiences. It’s a gift to be able to connect with and learn from people who are different from me. Although I hope to make a positive impact on others’ lives, they often make just as big an impact on mine.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy cooking/baking, creating art, doing outdoorsy things, thrifting, traveling to see my long distance friends, and spending time with my friends and family.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

If I wasn’t an SLP, I’d love to own a little cafe/coffee shop/bakery of sorts.

What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?

Start with play! Find out what they’re interested in first, then incorporate the goals. Just like us, kids enjoy working on things when it’s interesting and meaningful to them.
