What got you interested in working as a physical therapist?
I have always had a passion for helping others, and a love for pediatrics. My journey to becoming a PT stemmed from an injury I suffered as an adolescent. My physical therapist had a profound impact on my life both in sport and career trajectory. After pursuing my DPT I quickly learned that I wanted to help other kids reach their personal goals in the way I had. Home health and early intervention PT allows me to help families in a natural environment that is beneficial to achieving quicker outcomes with equipment easily accessible to them.
What do you love most about working as a physical therapist?
Some of the best moments as a physical therapist are seeing kiddos take their first steps. It is incredibly rewarding to help children reach there motor milestones, and watching families tear up with joy will never get old.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
In my free time I love to run, ski, hike and travel! When I am not in the mountains I love to watch Wisconsin sports and try new coffee shops.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I can play the ukulele.
What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?
Changes in routines can be an easy way to implement PT skills at home. It can be as simple as performing torticollis stretches at each diaper change, or having an older kiddo practice stairs on the way to their bedroom each night. By adding in small changes to routine it makes practicing the interventions less daunting to both the child and their caregiver. Therapy doesn’t have to be work, but rather it can be both part of routine and part of play!
