MOT OTR/L

What got you interested in working as an occupational therapist?

I did a “senior service” in high school at a school in Dallas for kids with various disabilities. It really sparked my passion of not only working with kids, but helping them reach their goals and becoming more independent in meaningful activities!

What do you love most about working as an occupational therapist?

I love being an Occupational Therapist because it allows me to help kids and families explore their sensory world in a way that’s meaningful to them. I love that OT is not just black or white and there is never one right answer. I love to explore all possibilities with children and their families to come up with an answer that best suites each child and families’ needs.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I am usually outdoors in Colorado or travelling to new places! I enjoy skiing, hiking, and camping in the mountains. I also love to do yoga, try new breweries with friends, play sand volleyball, or just have a picnic in the park!

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I have been fortunate to travel to 5/7 continents of the world!

What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?

I always love to suggest a sensory bin or sensory bags! Sensory bins allow for so much unique sensory play in just one small container. This type of intervention opens up doors to not only sensory experiences such as tactile, olfactory (with essential oils), interoception ( with tempered materials), but also cognitive learning opportunities. Hiding small plastic letters, numbers, pictures, animals, etc. can provide an opportunity to increase executive functioning and cognitive skills while also inviting new communication and language opportunities. I love a good multi-sensory/mind and body approach that can be done right in the home!
