What got you interested in working as a speech therapist?

Back in high school I was in the American Sign Language honors society and did some service hours at the Kansas school for the Deaf. I really enjoyed my time there and loved the aspect of helping people with their communication. I owe a lot to the kind students at KSD for inspiring my desire to work with people in the area of communication!

What do you love most about being a speech therapist?

My favorite thing about being an SLP is seeing progress with my patients, especially when it appears to happen naturally or you get to witness a “click” inside of them and they get excited about the process as well. It’s also a great job because I get to make relationships with a lot of wonderful patients and family members.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my cat, Duper, going to the gym, doing outdoor activities like paddle boarding, camping, hammocking, and I LOVE going to concerts!

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Fun fact that most people wouldn’t guess is that I’ve never broken a bone in my life! I’m also more introverted than extroverted. 🙂

What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?

I will always encourage spending time talking about what you are doing throughout the day with your child. It engages them, provides great language models, and is a great way to encourage them to communicate themselves!
