What got you interested in working as a speech therapist?

I volunteered as a student assistant in my middle and high schools’ special education classes and was able to see how SLPs get to work with a variety of diagnoses!

What do you love most about being a speech therapist?

As a bilingual SLP, I continuously observe the significance and value in connecting with my Spanish-speaking families in their native language. In general, I love empowering my patients and families to advocate for themselves as well as helping them reach both speech and life goals.

What do you love most about working with FRPT?

Julie has created such a wonderful culture at Front Range. Every person who has a hand in FRPT cares so much about our team as well as our patients and families. I feel thankful everyday to get to work with such kind and compassionate people!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy traveling around and outside of Colorado, hiking with my dog, Hazel, skiing, playing golf, tennis, and pickleball with my husband, attending live shows, hanging out with my family and friends, and cheering on my Jayhawks!

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I had jaw surgery when I was 17 and was wired shut for 7 weeks. The experience made me truly appreciate the ability to eat food and easily communicate with others!

What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?

My favorite thing parents can do to help with speech and language is to be present in their kids’ favorite activities. Children learn the most when they are having fun! That can look different for each kiddo, like cooking together, gardening together, making snowmen together, playing cars, dinos, or dolls together, coloring together. When parents are engaged in what their child is most interested in, that opens the door to so many teaching moments for speech and language.
