What got you interested in working as a speech therapist or working with FRPT?
I did my CF in the schools and wanted a change to something where I’d be able to give more of my attention to individual patients and their families. This is my first time in Home Health but I’m excited to get to see what comes from having stronger relationships and what more 1:1 time with patients means for their progress as communicators.
What do you love most about being a speech therapist?
My favorite memory as a clinician so far has been working with a Spanish speaking family and their 8 y.o. with Apraxia and having her say her first fully intelligible sentence in front of her mother.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Love to read (love a good book club), going on hikes (I know, cliché), and trying new restaurants/bars with friends.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I play the cello! I used to play for a lot of weddings back in Michigan while in Grad school.
What is your favorite activity to encourage learning and growth with kids?
Speech Blubs for articulation carryover. It’s an app that you can assign “homework” to for parents and they can be incredibly short assignments that I would encourage parents to use while I was in the schools.
Is there anything else you want to share?
I have an 8lb Yorkie named Max. We found him while hiking in the Grand Canyon and the vet thought he had been out there alone for around 2 months based on how underweight he was (6lbs). We fed him some chicken while hiking and he followed us for 3 days and slept next to our tent. He’s thriving now!
